Investor Partnerships – health technologies, West Yorkshire: Round 2

Innovate UK are investing up to £3.9million from the Launchpad programme for UK SMEs to grow their innovation activities in the health technology cluster in West Yorkshire. Investor partners will work with Innovate UK to invite innovative businesses to apply for grant funding alongside their investment.

Project start date & duration: From 01 September 2025, between 6-12 months (feasibility & industrial research projects); 12-18 months (experimental development projects)

Scope

Your project must help to grow your innovation activities in the health technology cluster in West Yorkshire, both during and after your project. This could be demonstrated by your local innovation activities, the value that your innovation activities create in the cluster and your engagement with other innovation active organisations in the cluster, e.g., Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber. Projects must focus on human health technology innovation and can address any human health challenge, including, but not limited to, overcoming health inequalities, global net zero challenges in healthcare, major health conditions, the prevention of disease, earlier and better detection and diagnosis of disease, other challenges that can be tackled with health technologies.

Specific Themes

Projects can focus on one or more of the following: medical devices; diagnostics, including In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVD); digital health, including data driven health technologies and artificial intelligence (AI). Note this list is not exhaustive; where you can show your proposal fits within the scope of this competition, you can focus on other themes.

Projects that will not be funded

Collaborative R&D projects, those with a large capital infrastructure and projects not carried out by SMEs. Projects not invited by one of Innovate UK’s investor partners are ineligible.

Eligibility

  • Subsidy Control and EC State Aid funding rules apply
  • Applicants must be a UK registered SME and projects must be single applicant only. R&D work must be carried out in the UK and project results exploited from UK. Subcontractors must be UK based, with costs justified and appropriate to the total costs.
  • Must be invited to apply by your investor partner and have discussed and agreed your proposal with your investor partner before submitting your proposal.

Funding Rates

Total eligible project costs (£3.9million pot):

  • Feasibility Studies: £50,000-£300,000; 6-12 months duration
  • Industrial Research: £100,000-£1million; 6-12 months duration
  • Experimental Development: £250,000-£2million; 12-18 months duration
