Digital Europe: programme for EU’s digital transition
Digital Europe is the name of a multiannual funding programme, with an overall budget of 7.5 billion euros in 2021-2027. The EU regularly publishes ‘calls for proposals’ for specific projects within the five main objectives of the programme:
- Cybersecurity and Trust
- High Performance Computing
- Cloud, data and Artificial Intelligence
- Advanced digital skills
- Accelerating best use of digital technologies.
As we explained in an earlier article, Digital Europe is not a simple grant programme. Interested organisations must be involved in cutting-edge and high-tech digital innovations. They must have the right profile, a convincing track record, and a project that closely fits a specific ‘call for proposals’. They also must be willing to study the official Work Programmes for priorities and strategic criteria.
What are the upcoming Digital Europe calls about?
The upcoming call round will have several calls within the field of cybersecurity:
- Development and Deployment of Advanced Key Technologies
- National Security Operations Centres (SOCs)
- Enlarging existing or Launching New Cross-Border SOC Platforms
- Strengthening the SOC Ecosystem
- Preparedness Support and Mutual Assistance, Targeting Larger Industrial Operations and Installations
- Support for Implementation of EU Legislation on Cybersecurity and National Cybersecurity Strategies
The themes of the four other calls are:
- Specialised Education Programmes in Key Capacity Areas
- Support to the implementation of Multi-Country Projects
- Towards networked Local Digital Twins in the EU
- European Digital Media Observatory
More details for each call can be found via the hyperlinks. The six cybersecurity calls are expected to run from 4 July 2024 until 21 January 2025. The four remaining calls are also expected to start on 4 July 2024, but with 21 November 2024 as a deadline.
