Objective
The Digital Europe Programme, or DIGITAL for short, was launched in 2021. The purpose of this ambitious grant programme is to support and accelerate the digital transformation of the economy, business and society in the European Union (EU). In this way, the programme aims to improve the EU’s competitiveness in the global digital economy and reduce dependence on digital systems and solutions from other parts of the world. The total budget for the period 2021-2027 is almost 7.6 billion euros.
Themes
The Digital Europe Programme focuses on five interrelated key themes:
- high-performance computing (‘supercomputing’)
- artificial intelligence (AI)
- cybersecurity and trust
- advanced digital skills
- deployment, best use of digital capacity and interoperability.
Specific calls for proposals are regularly published around these key themes.
Details
Participation in the Digital Europe Programme is open to legal entities established in an EU Member State or an associated country. International organisations with a European interest can also participate.
Grants from the programme can amount to as much as 100% of eligible costs. But beware: the bar is high – the programme seeks pioneering, ‘mature’ projects that contribute to strengthening the EU’s strategic autonomy. This could include, for example, setting up a high-quality centre of excellence.
