Het Innovation Fund stimuleert projecten die doorbraken realiseren in:
- Innovatieve koolstofarme technieken en processen in energie-intensieve bedrijven, inclusief producten die koolstofintensieve processen en producten vervangen
- Bouw en exploitatie van koolstofafvang, -opslag (CCS) of -gebruik (CCU)
- Innovatieve hernieuwbare energieopwekking en -opslag
Voor wie is de financiering bedoeld?
De financiering vanuit het Innovation Fund is bestemd voor het bedrijfsleven. Samenwerking met andere partijen is niet nodig. De oproep staat open voor sectoren uit alle EU-lidstaten, IJsland en Noorwegen. Minstens één ETS-plichtige onderneming moet deelnemen aan het project.
Volgende criteria worden gehanteerd bij de evaluatie:
- potentieel om broeikasgasemissies te vermijden,
- innovatiepotentieel,
- financiële en technische rijpheid,
- potentieel voor schaalvergroting,
- kostenefficiëntie.
Hoeveel budget is er beschikbaar?
Small scale projecten gaan over een investering tussen € 2,5 en 7,5 miljoen (CAPEX). Het subsidiabele investeringsbedrag moet direct gelinkt zijn met de innovatieve techniek die de emissiereducties zal realiseren.
Maximum 60 % van de investering (CAPEX) komt in aanmerking voor steun.

De oproep sluit op 10 maart 2021 om 17 u.

Innovation Fund: call for small scale projects
The Innovation Fund recently launched a new call for ‘small scale’ investment projects. The projects aim to implement innovative technologies that can realise an important reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG). Strong projects strive to implement breakthrough technologies that are close to market and will be implemented for the first time at this scale or for a specific application in a well-selected pioneering setting.
As successor of the NER300 programme, the Innovation Fund is an important financial instrument to realise a climate neutral Europe by 2050. The Innovation Fund stimulates projects that realise important breakthroughs in:
- Innovative low-carbon technologies and processes in energy intensive industries, including products that replace carbon intensive technologies and products
- Construction and exploitation of carbon capture, storage (CCS) or utilisation (CCU)
- Generation and storage of renewable energy
What?
Financial support of the Innovation Fund mainly targets industry. Collaboration is not required (proposals can be submitted by a consortium, but also by a single company). The call is open to all EU member states, Iceland and Norway. At least one of the applicants should contribute to ETS.
Proposals are evaluated with respect to the following criteria:
- Potential to avoid greenhouse gases
- Innovation
- Financial and technical maturity
- Scalability
- Cost efficiency
How much?
Small scale projects plan an investment between 2.5 and 7.5 million euro (CAPEX). Only costs directly linked to the innovative technologies that will realise reduction in GHG emissions are eligible for support. Support consists of a maximum of 60% of the investment (CAPEX).
When?
The call closes March 10th 2021 at 17h.
